Getting Your Home Ready For Summer

Refreshing or renovating before Christmas? Here are a few tips from the article I wrote for Luxe Real Estate's September newsletter.

Why timing is important

Planning a renovation, refresh or new furniture before the holidays? Timing matters more than most people expect due to supplier cut off dates and holiday shutdowns.

Four things to keep in mind

With the Christmas holidays now only a couple of months away, here are a few things to keep in mind.

  1. Suppliers almost always have “cut-off dates” (the last date you can order and still have it arrive before the holidays) for made to order items or items that aren’t already stocked.

  2. Some suppliers carry products from overseas, where manufacturing also slows over their own holiday periods early in the new year. Furniture, tiles, tapware and appliances ordered late in the year can experience further delays.

  3. Locally, most suppliers close around the 19th to the 22nd of December and won’t restart until mid-January.

  4. Trades also often take leave either side of the holiday shutdown, so anything mid-build in December will usually be on hold until the holiday season ends, with a few exceptions.

The good news

There’s no need to worry. All of this can be managed by speaking to suppliers, trades and builders about holiday schedules, specifically lead times and cut-off dates.

A little advance planning and a chat with the right person can help everything go smoothly, leaving you free to enjoy the run up to the holiday season.
